The future for Mad Mathematics Laboratories is steady gain. Currently the company is working on several projects, OSRPG, OpenRPG, Knowledge Arcana, and the OSRPG CCG; but with new advancements in the Traipse distro of OpenRPG plans will unify many of the projects.
The Board / Card Game plugin (see Traipse: Ticket 30) will unify the projects just as the OSRPG will unify the mechanics and the Knowledge Arcana magazine will unify the story lines.
“The main goal right now is to get the Board / Card Game plugin out and stable. Once the plugin is completed and ready for distribution Mad Math Labs will turn it’s focus on Knowledge Arcana and the OSRPG mechanics. The attention being placed on Traipse will be lowered to stability patches and milder advancements.” Knowledge Arcana is currently expected to be re-released in March of 2010.
The Board / Card Game Plugin:
A special thanks to James Mathe of Minion games for letting us use the images from Those Pesky Humans as the test subject for the Board / Card Game plugin.
The Board / Card Game plugin (BCG) is a plugin that will attempt to make OpenRPG a true Virtual Game Table. Unlike a list of softwares which are specific to one type of game or even one game, the BCG opens up the map of OpenRPG and allows developers to re-write some of the rules. The BCG will also create windows that will allow users to act as a hand of cards, or a deck of cards if need be.
The BCG will be designed as a generic plugin which allows for the installation of board and card games. This design aspect allows users who have the plugin to share games with users who have the plugin and an installed game. “I really want the digital table to act like a real table.”
The BCG is currently expected to be released in December of 2009.
